Nyquist wins 142nd Kentucky Derby
The announced attendance of 167,227 is the second-highest ever for the Kentucky Derby.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nyquist has won the 142nd Kentucky Derby.
The undefeated horse ran the Derby in 2:01:31. After Danzing Candy led down the far stretch, Nyquist took the lead at the top of the far turn and held on to win by 1 1/4 lengths.
Ridden by jockey Mario Gutierrez, Nyquist went off as the favorite with 2-1 odds.
Exaggerator, the next-highest favorite at 5-1, made a late charge to finish second.

The announced attendance of 167,227 is the second-highest ever, behind only the 2015 Derby, which brought more than 170,000 people to Churchill Downs.
The winning time from Nyquist was the fastest at a Kentucky Derby since Funny Cide in 2003.
