LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- You never know who you'll meet at the Kentucky Derby. But if you're hoping to see some of your favorite stars up close, this is the place to be.

The fashion, the stars, furry friends and the fans, dozens of people stood on the sidelines hoping to catch a glimpse of some well-known faces and snap photos from afar.

The red carpet has got to be one of the most popular areas of Churchill Downs. It’s a one of a kind who's-who event that brought in famous celebrities of all generations.

"This is our 20th year of coming to the Derby, my wife Teresa and I. And it's just one of the thing we look forward to every single year," said country music singer Travis Tritt.

“I just want to be here in the present. I always see it on television and I'm like who's going to win who's going to win," said CNN Anchor Don Lemon.

While some stars talked about upcoming projects to look out for, many singers used the carpet as a stage to belt out some popular tunes.

And then, the unexpected happened.

Country music star JD Shelburne got down on one knee and popped the question for his girlfriend, Amy Whitham.

"We've been dating six years,” he said. “The time was right."

You never know what to expect at the Kentucky Derby.

But one thing's for sure: it's an event like no other that attracts some of the biggest stars from across the world.
