Fire displaces several families at apartment complex in Jeffersontown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Crews were called out to the scene of a residential fire in Jeffersontown on Monday evening. The fire started near the roof of the Parliament Square Apartments at 9238 Wendell Circle.

From a distance, David Edwards watched what he couldn't believe.

"When we got back over here, they had all three entrances blocked off," Edwards said.

For more than eight years, Edwards and his family have lived on the second floor of the building that was nearly consumed by the blaze on Monday evening.

The family couldn't tell how bad the damage was to their second story unit. Nobody was home when the fire started.

Investigators don't know what started the fire, but luckily no injuries were reported.

"We did have a few (people) that we walked out, as well as we pulled out five or six dogs," said Tom Darst, assistant chief with Jeffersontown Fire.

People from twelve separate units in the building are displaced, at least until Tuesday.

As for the Edwards family, they just hope the damage isn't too bad, and they can salvage some of their belongings. Emergency crews were on scene in six minuets, the speedy response enabling them to keep the fire contained.
