Louisville mayor encourages entrepreneurship during Small Business Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Mayor Greg Fischer is challenging young people to become entrepreneurs.

It's part of Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer's message during Small Business Week.

Today, he spoke at Sweet Peaches on Muhammad Ali Boulevard about the importance of supporting small businesses in our community. He said Louisville was the fourth fastest city to recover after the 2008 recession.

The city has added more than 50,000 jobs since then, and 2,500 new businesses.

"People want an authentic experience and that's what you get when you come to small businesses," Fischer said. "And the other thing is that it's so important, is that it keeps wealth in our community. We want our citizens to learn how to buy local at an early age so that's instinctive to them."

Mayor Fischer says more than 80 percent of our workforce is employed by small businesses.

You're encouraged to join in Small Business Week by shopping local and promoting your favorite small businesses on social media using the hashtag, #LouisvilleBiz.
