Alcohol sales fall worldwide for first time since 2001

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The world is sobering up as alcohol sales are going down for the first time since 2001.

Global sales figures show people are not drinking as much as they used to. Worldwide consumption decreased 0.7 percent last year.

Experts say a sluggish economy could be to blame for the decrease.

Premium English Gin, Irish whiskey, Japanese whiskey and dark beer saw a boost in popularity, but rum and vodka performed the worst in sales.
