Family of Indiana man charged with threatening Donald Trump speaks to WDRB

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- A profanity-laced tirade allegedly posted to YouTube by Richard Deville, Jr. doesn't leave much to the imagination.

It allegedly shows a masked and armed Deville, Jr. threatening the life of Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump and his family.

In two interviews with WDRB, Deville, Jr.'s dad and girlfriend say they've seen the video, and they tell us it is in fact their loved one.

"It's not the person he is," his girlfriend Jackie Cox said.

But she and Deville, Jr.'s dad, also named Richard Deville, say the whole story isn't represented in the video.

"You know that's my son, but I'm being honest, he's slow," Deville said.

A mental impairment, his loved ones say, has plagued his life. Trips in and out of treatment have apparently been regular.

"He does whatever he can to make his friends happy," his dad said.

"That's where his disability comes in. He's going to do what someone tells him to do to look cool," Cox added.

WDRB asked the family if Deville, Jr. has anything against Donald Trump.

"He doesn't even know who Donald Trump is," his dad said. "He don't vote."

Friday in Floyd County Court, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf by a judge. The issue of mental competency was addressed afterward by Prosecutor Keith Henderson.

"If there's evidence presented to that, it would come into consideration as we move forward," Henderson said.

His family says jail or prison is not where he belongs. Instead, they want him in a hospital getting help.

Deville, Jr. is due back in on June 7. His bond is set at $10,000 full cash.
