Designer dog houses raise money for Metro Animal Services

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Helping homeless animals-- one *dog house* at a time.

Keith Stone took up the challenge of Metro Animal Services supporters to design a pink dog house that resembles a purse. His idea won a "director's award" Saturday in a competition called "Barkitecture Louisville."

"I thought what do small dogs like? And they like to be in purses," Stone said.

The contest raised money for a new animal shelter, according to the organizers. The dog houses were on display at Willow Park in the Highlands.

A steel dog house won "best in show."

"We've been working on this kind of design for a while and this was just a great opportunity to put something out in the public eye and try something new, and it's all for a good cause," said designer Brad White.

"Barkitecture Louisville" is a first-time event in 2016. Organizers say they'd like to make it an annual competition.
