Jeffersontown High School students hit the seas at 18th annual cardboard regatta

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Kingdom hosted Jeffersontown High's 18th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta on Monday.

Students were only allowed to use a few sheets of cardboard, some duct tape and a dream to build their boats.

Monday they tested their designs in water.

"The biggest thing is learning to work as a team to get this single product out here in the water and hope you don't sink," said Jason Stepp, the students' engineering teacher. "They have to get around one full time and stay, dry and they get their grade."

The students spent a month researching, planning and designing the vessels, which were tested via time, distance and weight trials.
