I’d like to talk about Donald Trump for a minute.
Not to endorse him, but to examine all the things people have gotten wrong about his candidacy so far.
When he threw his hat in the ring for the Republican presidential nomination, conventional wisdom held that he’d be among the first eliminated.
Conventional wisdom was wrong.
When he started making some of the wildest pronouncements ever heard from a presidential candidate, talking heads said he was finished.
But he was just getting started.
When the race got down to just three or four survivors, analysts knew his opposition would solidify and then he’d go down.
And when the entire Republican Party leadership united behind a last-ditch effort to stop him, none of the political pundits thought he could survive that.
Except he has.
Love him or hate him, there’s one thing we can all agree upon: he’s managed to defy every assumption made about him as a candidate right from the start.
Does this mean he can do it one more time and prevail in the general election? The polls say no. But at this point, anyone who assumes the polls are infallible simply hasn’t been paying attention.
What I do know is this: If you’re a Trump fan, negative predictions shouldn’t faze you in the least. But if you detest him, you’ll ignore him in November only at your own peril.
Call and tell us what you think.
I’m Bill Lamb, and that’s my Point of View.
