LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- They're not just blowing smoke. A local group is fired up about legalizing marijuana.

Kentuckians for Medicinal Marijuana held a town hall meeting in Louisville on Wednesday, touting the benefits of pot.

Several speakers shared their stories about how it's helped relieve their chronic pain and symptoms.

Organizers say it's "high time" that legislators stop stigmatizing the drug and legalize it.

"We've had people with their property taken, been thrown in jail, their children taken ... for marijuana, and they've taken it and realized it's helped them," organizer Dan Seum Jr. said.

Organizers also say cannabis could help Kentucky's heroin problem, claiming overdoses are down 25 percent in states where medical marijuana is legal.
