Closing arguments begin in murder trial of hot dog vendor accused in road rage case

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Was it a cold-blooded killing or self-defense? That is the question that jurors are getting ready to answer in a deadly road rage trial.

Closing arguments in the trial of Donald Hayes, a well known hot dog vendor who plies his trade outside the courthouse, began Thursday morning in the judicial center.

Hayes is on trial, charged with murder for shooting Danny Wilson during an alleged road rage incident two years ago.

Hayes took the stand yesterday, claiming the shooting was in self-defense after Wilson smashed out his car window with a baseball bat.

The prosecution and defense met in court this morning to discuss jury instructions without the jury there. The jurors were brought into the courtroom a short time later, and they heard instructions from the judge.
