LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- I told (warned?) you that the college football magazines were coming, days earlier than they have arrived in previous years.

I handed over my money for my first yearbook of the 2016 season, scoring the Athlon Sports ACC football preview.

It's hard to miss. Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is parked on the cover, searching downfield as he cocks his right arm. (Not sure if Jackson finished this play by running or passing the ball.)

What does Athlon project for the Cards?

I won’t share everything because it would not be responsible to post all the information and eliminate the incentive to purchase the magazine.

But here are highlights.

*The Cards are ranked 19th nationally, which is third highest ranking of any ACC team. Florida State is ranked second, behind Alabama, with Clemson fourth. North Carolina is 22nd.

That, of course, leaves Louisville third in the ACC Atlantic Division with a projected record of 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the league.

(For the record, Indiana is No. 55, Kentucky No. 56 and Western Kentucky No. 76.)

*Athlon projects Louisville to play Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.

In its analysis of the league race, Athlon writes: "Louisville is the clear No. 3 in the division and, frankly, could be better than any team in the Coastal."

*Two Louisville players made Athlon’s top three all-American teams -- linebacker Devonte Fields is on the first team defense with linebacker Keith Kelsey on the third team.

*Lamar Jackson did not make the Athlon list of the Top 20 Heisman Trophy contenders. Jackson did make Athlon's list of top breakout players for the 2016 season.

*Athlon ranks the 14 ACC teams in seven offensive and defensive units. The Cards' highest rankings are first at linebacker and third at quarterback as well as in the secondary. Their worst rankings are ninth on the offensive line, defensive line and running back.

*Kelsey and Fields were the only two U of L players named first-team all-ACC.

*No Louisville recruits were ranked in the Top 30 signees in the league. In fact, of the top 30, 22 signed with either Florida State or Clemson.
