LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fire in the Portland neighborhood destroyed one house, damaged another and forced one family from their home. 

Louisville firefighters were called to a house fire on North 24th Street at Northwestern Parkway about 3 a.m. Friday.  When they arrived, they found the vacant house in flames.  That fire spread to a second home nearby where a family of three lives. All were able to safely escape. 

Louisville Fire and Rescue Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Botner says the vacant house was heavily damaged and will likely have to be demolished.

The fire at the second home was contained to one room.
