Archdiocese of Louisville, JCPS partner for kindergarten readiness camps

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Archdiocese of Louisville is partnering with Jefferson County Public Schools to help prepare hundreds of local kids for kindergarten.

Right now, only about half the students starting school are ready.

JCPS hosts Ready 4K camps to help get kids prepared.

This new partnership, along with $1 million in funding mean the number of kids able to take part jumps from 300 to 1,200. The camps take place in July at different sites, including public and catholic schools.

"I think this is a great example in our community to look for the common good, to see the child who needs all the breaks he or she can get and together to build up our community," said the Most Rev. Joseph Kurtz, Archbishop of Louisville.
