As Demetrius Greene left his arraignment Wednesday, another inmate, Shawn Evans, ran up from behind and took Greene down.  According to detectives, the two know each other.

"Shawn Evans and Demetrius Greene are both charged with armed robbery of the Penn Station at 300 West Woodlawn on May 23,” LMPD Robbery Unit Detective Eric Black said.

According to court documents, Evans is facing five charges, including first degree robbery, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana and parole violation. Contempt of court is the newest charge.

Greene is charged for nine armed robberies all this month.

“During the hold up, Demetrius went in armed with a handgun, made demands for the money while Mr. Evans was in front of the business participating in the robbery with him,” Detective Black said.

LMPD's Robbery Unit called on the Jeffersonville Police Department and amped up the search for Green, who they called a fugitive.

They found him Tuesday at the Motel 6 on Old Highway 31 in Jeffersonville, but he didn't go easily.

“Based on the violent crime that he was wanted for, we activated our SWAT team, and we put an operation in place to get him out of the room,” Jeffersonville Detective Todd Hollis said.

As the team was taking position, Green exited his room at the motel and officers confronted him.

"He wasn't compliant with our officers until a non-lethal force was used, and then he was taken into custody," Detective Hollis said. “A bean bag round was deployed and he, at that point, surrendered.”

As for why one inmate attacked the other, detectives say it’s unclear at this point.

No officers were injured in the operation.

Green pleaded not guilty to all charges.
