New fitness studio opens near Germantown neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new fitness studio near the Germantown neighborhood teaches people to fly.

It's called "Fit to Fly," and it's a unique studio that specializes in aerial, flexibility, personal training and pole lessons.

It's located on Barret Avenue.

The owner received a $5,000 loan from the city's Microbusiness Program to get the studio up and running. The program helps low-income business owners start and grow small businesses of their own.

The owner said her journey hasn't been easy, but she wants to show others that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

"In 2012, I was in a really bad fire that burned my whole face and chest completely off. So then I was told to file for disability, and I made the decision just to keep fighting and that I would overcome that so I could help other people," Jeanette Martinez said.

Martinez is an internationally-recognized contortionist and certified yoga instructor.
