U of L student tells WDRB he heard 30 to 40 shots fired near campus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- “Normally there are a lot of people near this place just because of how close it is to campus, but that was the most people I'd ever seen,” University of Louisville student, Graham Carmack said.

Students at U of L say college parties are typical near campus and gunshots are not.

Police were called to the scene of a double shooting at 3rd Street and Cardinal Boulevard around one o’clock Sunday morning.

“Once I heard the screams and everything and looked out my window and everyone was dispersing, obviously, I knew they weren't fireworks. They were gun shots,” Carmack said.

Officers say two people were hit by the shots and taken to University Hospital.  One of the victims is a female in critical condition. Her father tells WDRB that his 19-year-old daughter, Eriaun Warrick was shot in the mouth and she is stable.

The other victim is a male who suffered non-life threatening injuries. His name has not been released.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Graham Carmack says he heard so many shots, he thought more people were injured.

“About 30 to 40 shots and it continued for five minutes sporadically,” Carmack said.

Witnesses at the scene posted a video of the shots fired to Twitter.  One of those shots hit Carmack's vehicle parked on 3rd Street.

“There was a bullet hole in my trusty 2000 Honda Accord,” Carmack said.

The bullet went through the driver’s side of the vehicle behind the headlight.  It ripped through the hood of the car and when Carmack found it in the morning, the car wouldn't start.

“[It] severed a few wires; kind of exploded my change tray and [I] found the bullet laying where my change tray used to be,” Carmack said.
