Kentucky State Police say they are investigating after a man shot and killed himself during a traffic stop in Bullitt County.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police say they are investigating after a man shot and killed himself during a traffic stop in Bullitt County.
According to Trooper Jeff Gregory, spokesperson for KSP, it happened just after 10 a.m. in the parking lot of McDonalds in the 1900 block of Old Preston Highway, near the intersection of Preston Highway and Tanyard Park Place.
Gregory said police initiated a traffic stop on a driver because they believed he was wanted on a warrant. A child -- believed to be approximately four years old -- was in the vehicle at the time.
According to Gregory, police told the man that someone would have to come and pick the child up.
At some point during the encounter, police say the man shot himself. He died as a result of his injuries.
The child is believed to have been in the car at the time of the shooting.
Police have not yet released the identity of the man, or what he was wanted for.
