Woman sues saying she was 'humiliated' and 'embarrassed' at Clark Co. Jail

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman is suing the Clark County Jail claiming she was humiliated behind bars.

Melissa Houglin says that while she was in jail in 2014, she was denied feminine hygiene products.

She's suing the county, Sheriff Jamey Noel, former Sheriff Danny Rodden and other corrections officers.

Houglin is asking a judge to extend the lawsuit to others because she claims this is happening to women in the jail. "Not only was I humiliated, I was embarrassed, and I just want to know that this is not going to happen to another female ever again," Houglin said.

Houglin is seeking damages for what she calls mental emotional distress.

A jail spokesman says the incident allegedly occurred two years ago under the previous sheriff. It is now jail policy that inmates are provided hygiene products as needed, under state jail standards.
