U.S. Dept. of Labor issues millions of dollars to help Ky. coal miners

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Millions of dollars will help out-of-work Kentucky coal miners find new jobs.

The U.S. Department of Labor is funding a grant worth $3.4 million.

The money will be used for a program to re-train almost 800 workers in the state.

Several coal mines have closed, leaving thousands of miners without jobs and many of them are located in eastern Kentucky.

The re-training program covers 23 Appalachian counties.
