LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation has a plan, and now all they need is the money.

Those who live in west Louisville got a first-hand look Tuesday at the Outdoor Recreation Initiative master plan.

Mayor Greg Fischer wants to spruce up Chickasaw and Shawnee Parks.

Developers would clean up polluted ponds, making them safe for canoeing, boating and even fishing.

"We're not compromising the natural quality of the parks with large open lawns mature canopies," said Andy Knight, one of the planners. "We wanted to keep that and enhance that."

The plans also calls for walking trails and an outdoor learning center.

The city hopes to pay for the improvements through public and private funding.
