LEWIS | Louisville cruises past Western Michigan in NCAA baseball opener
Senior pitcher Kyle Funkhouser pitches eight innings and gets plenty of offense in NCAA Regional opener.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville senior pitcher Kyle Funkhouser threw eight innings of four hit baseball, striking out six Western Michigan Broncos on his way to a 6-1 victory in the NCAA Regional opener at Jim Patterson Stadium.
“Actually, to start I didn’t feel great,” said Funkhouser, who threw 108 pitches in the win. “Later in the game, I kind of settled in and was able to settle into the zone a little better.”
Corey Ray and Will Smith both notched RBIs. Drew Ellis and Blake Tiberi had two each, Tiberi’s coming on a two run homer in the 7th.
“This is the spot you want to be in. Usually when you win that first game, you typically don’t use a lot of pitching. You’re one win away from playing in the championship,” said head coach Dan McDonnell.
Louisville is set to take on Ohio State Saturday at 4pm at Patterson Stadium.
