LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police say two people from Louisville were killed in an accident that happened in Sonora around 7:30 Saturday morning.

According to a KSP news release, the accident happened at the intersection of Ky. 84 and U.S. 31-W.

Police say a man was driving a 2008 Chevy Malibu east on KY 84 and was approaching U.S. 31-W. Authorities say there were also three passengers traveling inside the Malibu. All of the occupants inside the car were from Louisville, according to police.

Investigators say another driver was heading north in a 2004 Freightliner crew cab flat bed truck and trailer on U.S. 31-W. The driver of the truck was accompanied by one passenger, according to police.

Police say that for unknown reasons the driver of the Malibu pulled into the path of truck. As a result, the truck hit the passenger side of the Malibu.

Officials say two of the Malibu's passengers, 51-year-old Betty Gaston and 21-year-old Dashana Mainor were pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner. The driver of the Malibu and the third passenger were airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the truck was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
