Cancer survivors celebrate 'Survivors Day' at Churchill Downs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 800 survivors celebrated beating cancer Sunday at Churchill Downs.

The majority of those who attend the event have recently marked their one year anniversary of being cancer free.

Doctors with Norton Cancer Institute say often times cancer can be a lonely journey and this event helps bring them together.

"It feels good. I have a lot of respect for people and what they're going through. Everybody has something that they're going through and I've already met several people here who have told me their story," said one-year cancer survivor Linda Chandler.

June 5th is National Cancer Survivor's Day.
