Sale of GE's Appliance Park expected to be finalized Monday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's the start of a new era at GE's Appliance Park.

The sale to Chinese company Haier is expected to be final today.

In fact, the signs at Appliance Park have already been changed. The signs now read, GE Appliances, a Haier company.

The sale, worth $5.5 billion, is expected to close today. The deal goes back to last year, when the Justice Department sued to block GE's deal to sell Appliance Park to the Swedish company Electrolux.

GE backed out of that sale in December and then announced a new deal with Haier. The federal government approved that sale back in March.

Haier has promised to keep Appliance Park's headquarters and its leadership team in Louisville. The company says it will add more local jobs.
