LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit is investigating after the Jefferson County Coroner's Office says a man died at University Hospital from a gunshot wound.

According to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Larry Carroll, 24-year-old Kelly Austin, Jr. was transported to University Hospital early Monday morning. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh.

Carroll said Austin died just before 12:30 a.m. due to the single gunshot wound, which, Carroll said, caused damage to the left deep femoral artery.

According to Carroll, it is not immediately clear where the shooting originally took place.

LMPD Homicide is investigating.
