Bourbon headed from Louisville to NYC via boat

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The latest batch of bourbon is heading from Louisville to New York City via boat.

The master blender for Jefferson's Bourbon is trying to replicate the historic aging and transportation process of bourbon in the 1800s. Trey Zoeller is headed first to New Orleans, then New York City, with two barrels of bourbon.

He's trying to see if the flavor of the bourbon changes when it's transported by boat.

"By being on a boat...it's rocking continuously, so you've got more time, more surface area contacting the liquid...that should accelerate the maturation process," said Zoeller.

The boat leaves tomorrow.

Approximately 400 bottles of bourbon can be produced from the two barrels.
