Indiana's top education official wants to make pre-school available to all children

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana's top education official wants to make pre-school available to all children in the state.

Glenda Ritz, Indiana's Superintendent of Public Instruction, says she will make that state-funded plan a reality by 2020. She says the plan will take less than one percent of the state's budget and the funds exist as long as the support is behind the plan.

"Through a combination of leveraging federal dollars, reverting state allocations and eliminating wasteful spending in the state's budget, the funds are there if the political will exists," Ritz said.

The current pre-school program focuses its resources on low-income children.
