LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- "The Teddy Bears, the boxing gloves, they will all be donated to other charities," President and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center, Donald Lassere said.

When all is said and done, the gifts left for The Champ at the Ali Center will be given to children's hospitals and other charities in his name.

The growing memorial in the center plaza may not last long, but the work the center is doing for children across the world just might.

“We have three program areas, gender equality, education and global citizenship,” Lassere said.

The Ali family says it would like to see the fighter's legacy live on.

“Their wishes were in lieu of flowers, in lieu of gifts, in lieu of cards, to donate to the Muhammad Ali Center because they think it's very important that Muhammad Ali's legacy continues on,” Lassere said.

That legacy is helping children reach their goals and dream as big as Muhammad Ali did.

“We have a leadership program based on Muhammad Ali's six core principles and we expand those programs We are planning to take that program to Kazakhstan this summer. We have already started implementing that program in Houston,” Lassere said.

The center is also expanding programs for kids in Louisville.

“They can go to AliCenter.org and make donations online, they can send in checks and cash even to the Muhammad Ali Center. They can also text donations to the Muhammad Ali Center by texting ‘ALI’ to 96714," Lassere said.

WDRB asked if Ali left any final wishes or donations to the center in his will. Lassere said the will is currently private and only the family knows what it holds.
