LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Local General Electric workers and the company that now owns GE Appliances, Haier, are getting to know each other.

The sale of GE Appliances to the China-based company was finalized on Monday.

On Wednesday, the IUE-CWA union posted a letter on its Facebook page from local president Dana Crittenden, outlining what he calls the "getting to know you" period.

The union's national leadership and Haier have agreed to honor a no-strike, no lockout agreement, while the two sides negotiate a new contract.

Crittenden also says GE will give all eligible workers a so-called "closing payment" of $800. Those who lose their jobs within the first year with Haier will get preferential placement at other GE locations.
