LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- While he made a lasting impact on the world, that impact can be felt the strongest right here in his hometown of Louisville.

There was a non-stop flow of people at the the Muhammad Ali center paying their respects to the champ all week long, and especially on the day he was laid to rest.

"It's an outpouring of support and affection for Ali ... it's unprecedented, I don't think Louisvillians have seen a day like this is in the history of the city," Joe Brackett said.

"It's been amazing everyday to see new additions ... And how the flowers have grown," Jennifer Chappell said.

Muhammad Ali knew how to draw a crowd and the day he was laid to rest was no different.

Many people who live in Louisville have come to this memorial every day since the champ passed away. Others flew in from other parts of the world to pay their respects.

"Since we are in Louisville, I had to come out and be part of this. He was such a great person," Renee Buckner said.

Personal notes and signed autographs have been left at this memorial. Some pictures showing how his smile could light up a room with a personality that would make anyone feel important. His character can simply be described by a youngster who looks up to him.

And it's his fight both in and out of the ring has left a lasting impact on the world.

"It's a sad occasion, but a celebration of his life. We are proud to call him Louisville's own," Brackett said.

Many of the visitors say there is no doubt in their minds that Muhammad Ali will be remembered forever.
