LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man charged with murder in connection with a homicide that happened in Shively appeared in court on Saturday morning.

Ryan Nolan, 23, is charged with murder, according to an official report from Shively Police. Nolan was arrested Friday morning in the 1700 block of Luken Drive, near Dixie Highway, in Shively.

Sgt. Josh Myers with Shively Police says Nolan is a suspect in the death of a 19-year-old male.

Police say that on Friday, just before 3 a.m., officers went to a home on Luken Drive after someone called 911 and hung up.

According to police, the first officer made contact with Nolan outside the residence and he put his hands in the air and allegedly said, "you might as well go ahead and take me to jail because there is a body upstairs." Investigators say they located a 19-year-old white male victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say officers searched the residence and found a .45 caliber handgun and one spent casing.

Officials say Nolan was detained. While sitting on the ground in the presence of police, officers say Nolan, without being questioned, allegedly stated, "I am black and they are going to bury me."

Police say Nolan's girlfriend stated the gun went off and shot the victim, who was a friend of Nolan's, according to the arrest report. Authorities say during a police interview, Nolan's girlfriend said she heard the victim say he was going to point the gun at Nolan's head. Police say Nolan's girlfriend also said the victim stated 'it's ok, it is not loaded.'

Nolan is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections.
