LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The changes from high school to college can come with a bit of a shock for some students.

To help with that transition, JCPS is offering workshops for students and their parents.

The 'Decision, Organization, Ready, Meet, Study' or, DORMS program is geared toward first generation college students.

They'll be learning about financial aid, signing up for classes, student life and how to succeed.

Former JCPS students who just finished their freshman year gave some insight.

"The students that are coming back are gonna tell them it's not as easy as you think. There is a lot of free time, but how do you manage that free time. There is  a lot of choices you have where you're not going to call mom and dad but how do you make sure you make the right choices. Getting into college is one thing graduating from college is another thing," JCPS Chief equity officer, Dr. John Marshall, said.

A $500 scholarship and a new laptop was also raffled off.
