LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Work on the East End Bridge tunnel has led to a lane closure for drivers.

The right lane of U.S. 42 westbound between the Gene Snyder Freeway and Harrods Creek Fire Department will be closed weekdays after 9 a.m. It will open in the evenings and stay open through rush hour the next morning.

The work being done is all connected to the tunnel.

"The utility needs have to do with electrical systems that are necessary in the tunnel -- ventilation, lighting, traffic monitoring, cameras and that kind of thing," said Dan Hartlage, spokesperson for WVC East End partners. "So all that needs to occur and it's going to go. That stuff will be placed beneath U.S. 42 and run to the tunnel."

The right lane will be closed until mid-September.
