UK conducting three-year study on effects of concussions on jockeys

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a first-of-its-kind move to help jockeys who suffer from concussions.

The University of Kentucky is conducting a three-year study in a  partnership with the Jockeys' Guild and several thoroughbred organizations.

It will cover all of Kentucky's thoroughbred racetracks: Turfway Park, Keeneland Race Course, Churchill Downs, Ellis Park and Kentucky Downs.
Jockeys will be tested before races.

After a fall, they will be tested again to compare the two scores.

Most major sports in the U.S. have protocols for managing concussions.
