LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police is investigating after a man died as a result of injuries he sustained during a shooting in Washington County.

It happened Tuesday, June 14, at 10 a.m., just off of Bloomfield Road (KY 55), a mile and a half north of Springfield, Kentucky, according to a news release.

Police say a landowner found 51-year-old Yul A. Rayford lying inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was still alive, at the time. According to the news release, Rayford was airlifted to University Hospital, where he died just after 10 p.m.

"Rayford was last seen by a family member at his home in Bardstown around 7:00 a.m. EDT," the news release states. "An autopsy was performed today at the State Medical Examiner's office and the preliminary autopsy report indicates that Rayford died from a single gunshot wound to the head. No weapon was recovered at the scene."
