JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Investigators say a Jeffersonville man arrested in California on weapons charges was on the run trying to avoid a child molestation case.

James Howell is held in Los Angeles on a $2 million bond. He appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Police say he was headed to a pride parade there, his car filled with three assault rifles, ammunition, explosives, handcuffs and more.

Investigators say a friend of a 12-year-old girl reported Howell for having sexual intercourse with the child in May of this year.

Shortly afterward, he took off.

"Ultimately, Mr. Howell was asked to speak with an investigator, which he did, and very shortly afterward, he left the jurisdication and did
go out to California," Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said.

Mull filed for an arrest warrant and asked for $50,000 cash bond.

He tells us Howell will face child molestation charges in Clark County once the California case is resolved.
