LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A massive fire has broken out at an Elizabethtown McDonald's.

Large flames were seen coming from the restaurant on Dixie Highway.

Dozens of firefighters are on scene battling the flames, one of which was transported to an area hospital with heat exhaustion.

"It appears the fire started in a mulch area that is just outside one of the main entrances," said David Fegett, Deputy Chief of Elizabethtown Police. "The managers ... started to smell some smoke coming into the building. "

Several McDonald's employees tried to put the fire out themselves, but when it spread, they called 911.

Officials with the Elizabethtown fire department say 20 people were inside at the time, and all made it out OK.

McDonald's released the following statement Thursday night:

“The safety of our guests and crew is our primary concern at this time. We have confirmed that all guests and McDonald’s employees are safe and no injuries occurred during the fire. We are working with local fire officials and law enforcement to conduct a full investigation.”
