LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville is making the American Dream possible for 13 small business owners.

Nearly $130,000 in loans will be split up between more than a dozen "microenterprises."

The loans benefit low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs, with five or fewer employees.

Joel Ruiz got a $15,000 loan last year and was able to expand J.J. Family Auto Sales' shop off of Dixie Highway -- and now, he also owns a food truck.

"The first thing I asked our partner, the chef, 'Do you believe in the American dream?'" Ruiz said. "He said yes. I said, 'You are part of our team.'"

The loans will help a video production group, event rental space, fashion business, tax service, two childcare facilities and four catering businesses.

The loans are funded by federal dollars.
