Dirt Bowl organizers aim to promote summer of peace

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Leaving everything on the court at the annual Dirt Bowl Basketball Tournament.

The Dirt Bowl has been held every year since 1969, with the exception of a few years due to violence.

But organizers say they are hopeful a family friendly atmosphere at Shawnee Park will promote a summer of peace.

"I saw a lot of good men come here that were fighting against one another and left away as friends. People just want something to do. This is a competitive atmosphere for people and it's peaceful," said Dirt Bowl Coordinator, Neal Robertson.

Up to 6,000 people are expected to attend or play in the Dirt Bowl.

It will be every Saturday and Sunday for the next eight weeks.

And if you don't like basketball, you can always come out for the food, music and arts and crafts booths.
