LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a suspect after he threatened to shoot a man who was setting off bottle rockets for his grandchildren.

According to an arrest report, it happened on Friday, just before 6:30 p.m., at a home on Wilton Drive, near the intersection of W. Manslick Road and New Cut Road.

Police say an officer was called to the scene after they received a report that three people -- a 53-year-old man and his two four-year-old grandchildren -- had been threatened.

When police arrived, the man told them that he was shooting off bottle rockets for his grandchildren, when his neighbor -- 74-year-old John Schmitz -- came out of his front door, pointed a gun at them and said, according to the arrest report, "that he has killed before and he will kill again." Police say he also said that he would "kill again" if they shot off another firecracker.

According to the arrest report, Schmitz told police that he did point a gun at the man because he [Schmitz] had been to Iraq and he didn't like the noise. He also allegedly gave police permission to take the firearm, a fully loaded .38 caliber revolver.

Schmitz was arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment.
