Two women shot to death in Frankfort double-homicide

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two women were found shot to death in a quiet Frankfort, Kentucky neighborhood.

The women were found shot to death on Friday inside a home on Pea Ridge Road. No arrests have been made, but the Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating and detectives believe they know who committed the crime.

"Just a true tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased," said Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton.

It happened on Friday evening. A family member came to the home on Pea Ridge Road to check on the ladies and found their bodies instead. The victims were 32-year-old Jennifer Downey and 89-year-old Carolyn Barker.

According to the sheriff's office, Downey was Barker's caretaker.

Melton also said there is no reason for people in this area to be concerned that the suspect is on the loose.

"We feel like we know who the suspect is, but right now it is an open investigation, so I can not comment," Sheriff Melton said.

Shortly before the bodies were discovered, Franklin City Police responded to a suicide on Washington Street. Police told WDRB News that 69-year old Raymond Barker died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Right now, Sheriff Melton won't confirm if the cases are connected.
