Gov. Bevin stands behind U of L decision despite accreditation concerns

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky's governor stands by his decision to replace the University of Louisville's board of trustees.

Some faculty members say they're concerned that Gov. Matt Bevin's move might cause problems with the university's accreditation.

But Bevin says he took that into consideration before he acted.

"Everything we're doing is within the context of the law," he said Tuesday. "So people can make whatever noise they want, but it will be based on an absolutely flawed logic. And what is important to understand is we've not been making good progress, for frankly a couple of years now, as it relates to certain issues.

"We're now moving with a sense of purpose that we haven't had in quite some time."

Attorney General Andy Beshear has called a news conference for Wednesday to address the issue.
