LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Sitting down in an effort to stand up for gun control.

A group of about 30 U.S. House Democrats demanded a vote on gun control measures before sitting down and "occupying" the House floor.

It's all in response to the Orlando nightclub shooting.

The representatives want a vote on measures to block gun purchases by some suspected terrorists.

Kentucky's John Yarmuth also joined the effort. He tweeted several pictures, including one that said, "I'm on the House floor....staging a sit-in to demand action on commonsense gun legislation."

Yarmuth went on to tweet "proud to sit with Rep Joe Courtney and others, demanding action."

The House was not in session during the demonstration.
