LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville researchers are planning to tackle what they call the number one problem facing families today -- absent fathers.

A $5 million federal grant will fund the "4 Your Child project".

The research will be conducted by the Kent School of Social Work.

The goal is to connect fathers who do not have custody of their children with resources so they can become more active in their kids' lives.

"We see our project as an opportunity to connect them to the types of resources to get them in a position where they have the capacity to fulfill their social prescribed roles as fathers, as breadwinners, as nurturers, as caregivers," said U of L social work professor Armon Perry.

The program is looking to help 1,500 fathers in Kentucky.
