LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a registered sex offender after he was caught engaging in a sex act near the water fountain area of Waterfront Park.

According to an arrest report, both children and adults were hanging around the park's "dancing fountains" on Wednesday, just before 10 p.m. Police say they saw 59-year-old Gary Burks, a registered sex offender, nearby, engaging in a sex act with himself.

When officers approached him, he quickly stopped, according to the arrest report.

According to the online Kentucky Sex Offender Registry, Burks is considered a lifetime sex offender. The registry indicates that his original crime occurred in another state, and involved a 15-year-old victim.

Police say the address listed for Burks on the sex offender registry is not current.

Burks was arrested and charged with failure to comply with the sex offender registration and criminal trespassing.
