Parents taking hair, nail samples to St. Matthews lab to test children for drugs

Posted: Updated:

ST. MATTHEWS, Ky. (WDRB) -- There are "Any Lab Test Now" offices all over the country, but the St. Matthews location is one of the busiest.

"Louisville and Southern Indiana -- the whole Kentuckiana -- it's a hot bed for drugs," said Woodie Hippler, the owner of the store.

Worried parents with children under the age of 18 need as little as some finger nail clippings or a chunk of hair to test their child for drugs.

It can even be a sample from a hair brush.

"If they want to see long-term, they could do a hair test which goes back reliably up to 90 days," Hippler said.

If your son or daughter is older than 18, he or she needs to be present for the test.

Hippler, says the most common test is a urine test, which would show within the last week, or even thirty days with marijuana.

Eighty percent of the drug tests do come back negative, but Hippler says in the last five years, drug testing has grown from five percent of his business to 30 percent of his business.

"It's an epidemic ... It's really bad."

The drug tests start at $49, and the results are completely confidential.
