Retired U.S. Army generals teach preschoolers importance of Flag Day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A group of preschoolers got a chance to learn the importance of Flag Day from those who know best.

Two retired U.S. Army generals stopped by Bright Horizons Early Childhood Center Friday. They talked to preschoolers about the history, meaning, and etiquette of the American Flag.

The men are a part of a national organization focused on investing in America's children.

"This is something that stays with them in terms of the reading capability, their comprehension, their cognitive skills, throughout their entire educational process and that's what's exciting too," said Robert S. Silverthorn Jr., Maj. Gen. U.S. Army (Ret.).

A representative from Senator Mitch McConnell's office also presented the center with a flag of its own.

Flag Day was June 14.
