Louisville Metro Police holds crime prevention forum

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Park DuValle neighborhood, where LMPD is investigating a homicide that happened Saturday afternoon, was one of several areas where Louisville Metro Police held a crime prevention forum Saturday morning.

"We have residents out here who are afraid to walk to the bus stop to the corner store. Why? Because they are afraid they may become a victim of violent crime," said Major Jimmy Harper, LMPD 2nd Division Commander.

Police, community members, block watch captains, and more were at the forum held at the California Community Center.

The goal was to answer questions and provide tips to prevent crime in the neighborhoods that make up LMPD's second division.

"It's just an advantage for the Louisville Metro Police Department to more of our community come out and listen to ways to protect themselves because then they're gonna go back out in the community and share them with other people," Harper said.

Some of the neighborhoods in the second division include Algonquin, California, Park Hill and Shawnee.
