LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – Corey Ray’s pro baseball journey will begin in Brevard County, Florida with the Manatees, the high single A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The former Louisville outfielder signed a contract with the Brewers Saturday. Ray received a signing bonus reportedly worth over 4.1 million dollars.
“It’s unbelievable,” Ray told the Brewers broadcast team. “It’s something I’ll never forget."
After signing his contract, Ray, the 5th overall pick in this year’s Major League Draft met with the local media in Milwaukee. He then took in batting practice at Miller Park.
“My first time hitting at this ball park was beautiful,” said Ray. “You see Chris Carter hitting them out of the park and you’re thinking, ‘I got to follow that!”
Ray says he’s keeping a level head by following the advice of Big league friend Curtis Granderson.
“He just told me to be professional. Just worry about playing.”
Ray batted .310 with 15 home runs and 60 RBI in his junior (and final) season at Louisville.
